I specialize in therapy for children and adolescents who struggle with emotional and behavioral difficulties at home or school. By providing a warm, accepting environment, I offer a safe place for young people to learn about and express themselves; to play, grow, and heal. Our work tends to focus on competencies rather than limitations and solutions rather than problems. Through a holistic perspective we work on immediate problems, as well as overall social and emotional development to promote growth and healthy transition to adulthood. I work collaboratively with parents/caregivers, teachers and school counselors to ensure all individuals in the child’s life have the opportunity to address their concerns.
I utilize play therapy with preschoolers and young children who do not yet have the ability to express their feelings in words, but naturally do so through play. We focus on ways to express their fears, effective ways of communicating and behaving, and how to cope with overwhelming emotions in a healthy way.
The teen years can be a challenging time – not just for parents, but for teens themselves. They are between childhood and adulthood, but do not fit into either category. Teenagers can often feel completely alone. I provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space where they can discuss their fears and hopes, make sense of their feelings and create goals for the future. By freely talking about everything that’s happening in their lives they learn to manage overpowering emotions and harmful behaviors. In my experience, this relationship can be instrumental in helping teens transition into healthy and happy adults.
