A cornerstone of establishing an effective therapeutic relationship is getting a true understanding of the individual child’s strengths and challenges, which is a complex process. A child who appears to be having trouble with behavior or learning could face challenges in any number of areas, including cognition, learning, attention, executive function, or emotion regulation, to name a few.
Every child is unique and therapy is not a “one size fits all” method. I believe in providing a safe environment in which children and adolescents can focus on identifying areas of growth and healing.
Finding a therapist is very much like finding a friend. It is important for children and adolescents to feel comfortable and understood, and to provide parents and caregivers with tangible skills to better support their child.
I use evidenced-based interventions in working with children and adolescents. Thus, the interventions utilized in my practice are in line with current evidence-based child and adolescent psychosocial interventions outlined by The American Academy of Pediatrics. This includes strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy and Family Systems techniques.
